A message from the Master
Friday, September 9, 2022

The announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of State for an extraordinary seventy years, has come as a profound shock. On behalf of the whole Clare community, I extend our deepest sympathies to The King and other members of the Royal Family at this time of immense personal loss.

The College Chapel will be open for private prayer from 9am until 9pm on Friday 9 September. At 1.30pm, the Dean will lead a short Act of Remembrance with a reading, 2-minute silence and prayers in the Chapel, and all College members are warmly welcome to attend.

The University and Colleges of Cambridge have an established protocol for the death of the sovereign, in accordance with official guidance. This protocol is now being followed and the College flag is flying at half-mast as we enter a period of national mourning.

In the coming hours and days, there are very likely to be changes to our usual routines. Further announcements will be made as details become clear.
