Professor Paul Cartledge named Commander of the Order of Honour

Renowned ancient historian Professor Paul Cartledge FSA has been named Commander of the Order of Honour (Ταξιάρχης τῆς Τιμῆς), one of Greece's highest honours. The award celebrates Professor Cartledge's "contribution to enhancing Greece's stature abroad."


 


Professor Cartledge is the Emeritus A. G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture at the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of Clare College.


 


The honour will be presented by Ioannis Raptakis, the Greek ambassador in London, on behalf of the country's first female President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.


 


Professor Cartledge had previously been awarded the Gold Cross of the Order of Honour (Greece) in 2002.
